Description
Chinese geese are much different than other breeds. They even descended from a different species of wild goose. They are sometimes called Swan Geese because of their tall, alert posture. They are the most popular breed for use as “watch geese”, as they are very alert, have excellent vision, and can get very loud.
Varieties
White – Most common color and available from many hatcheries. These are also usually the cheapest of all geese, so if you buy a gosling from a farm store as “assorted”, you are most likely to get this color and breed. Not sold by Pottstown Poultry.
Brown – The original color, and maybe the most beautiful of all domestic geese (IMO). Hatcheries sometimes sell these, but often the exhibition quality is low. We found a very nice like of exhibition Brown Chinese. Available from Pottstown Poultry in 2026.
Buff – Very rare color. The buff gene is sexlinked in geese. If you breed a buff gander to brown females, all the female goslings will be buff and the males will be brown. Available from Pottstown Poultry in 2026.
Blue – Another very rare color. I am looking for this color for a future introduction.
