The Orust (pronounced ÓO-ruhst in Swedish) is a rare Swedish landrace chicken breed from the island of Orust on the west coast. In the United States, it is primarily available in the mottled variety.
These active foragers are well-suited to free-range conditions and are appreciated by American poultry keepers for their hardiness and heritage status. They are good layers of small to medium sized, light brown to white eggs.
These are not APA accepted and there popularity is low, making their survival as a breed in America very much in doubt. More small breeders are needed to maintain these safely for the long term.
