If you look at my Welsummer page now (until I update it) you will see that I am actively working with 5 of the 6 colors/patterns of Welsummers. I note that I do not carry Silver Duckwing, but that just changed. I was given a gracious offer to purchase a small flock of these from a line known for dark eggs, and of course I jumped at the chance.
So now, I should have 6 different Welsummers to offer next spring – well, 7 if you count the green egg laying Jades!
There are so many great things about Welsummers as a group:
- Productive layers
- Unique egg colors – famed from terra cotta colors, and also often heavily speckled
- Sexable chicks – especially the lines with sexlinked barring, they are true autosexing
- Great temperaments
- Dual purpose – grow fast and to a good heritage breed size
- Very attractive birds
Don’t ask me to pick my favorite. The rarest / newest should win that, but the new Silver Duckwings are classically beautiful. I just can’t decide . . . .
